Thanksgiving gratitude & acknowledgment

Today is Thanksgiving 2019, a good day to lift up grateful hearts and acknowledge that UUGSB is on the traditional territory of the Unkechaug and the Secatogue—and others whose names are lost from our history.

Sociologist James W. Loewen, who is a longtime UU, has written: “The antidote to feel-good history is not feel-bad history, but honest and inclusive history.”

His quote introduces the article, “6 Things Every Non-Native Should Do On Thanksgiving,” which includes suggestions for how non-natives can be better allies to Indigenous people.

Check out this resource for more information about territory acknowledgment.

May we all have grateful hearts, today and every day. Happy Thanksgiving!
